On the occasion of World Water Day 2026, the City of Acqui Terme will host a high-impact exhibition at the Movicentro: “I Fantasmi del Mare – Svelare l’invisibile per proteggere il domani” (Ghosts of the Sea – Unveiling the invisible to protect tomorrow).
The exhibition is organized by the Associazione Orizzonti Verdi ETS with the support of the University of Eastern Piedmont (UPO), Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Alessandria, the City of Acqui Terme, Premio Acqui Ambiente, Proplast, EcoeFISHent, Radio Gold, and 2P Solutions.
Curated by Claudia Chimenti and Matteo Acquarone, the exhibition shines a spotlight on the dramatic phenomenon of Ghost Gears: abandoned or lost fishing equipment that continues to pollute and kill marine wildlife for decades.
What is Ghost Gear?
According to WWF data, approximately 650,000 tons of fishing nets and tools are abandoned at sea every year, accounting for at least 10% of total marine litter. Through a multimedia journey, the exhibition illustrates the scale of this invisible disaster while proposing concrete solutions for the future.
